Sker Ritual Sker Pass & Dread Levels Guide

Sker Ritual rewards repeat play through two parallel progression systems: Dread Levels (your profile level) and Sker Pass (episode-specific cosmetic tracks). Neither system sells combat power—Wales Interactive kept Sker Pass entirely free with no premium tier—but both motivate farming high rounds after main quests. This guide explains how XP flows from score, what each pass unlocks, and how progression interacts with achievements and Patch v1.3 Custom Mode restrictions.

How XP works

Experience points come from your end-of-match score. The conversion is direct: 65,000 score equals 65,000 XP toward both Dread Levels and your active Sker Pass. Actions that raise score—headshots, round survival, objective completion, Laughing Policeman bonuses—accelerate both tracks equally.

After each run, the results screen shows XP earned. Higher difficulties and Nightmare Dread modifiers inflate score multipliers, making endgame farming faster than repeated Lavernock Normal clears. Failed runs still grant partial XP based on score achieved before wipe.

Custom Game Mode (Patch v1.3) may disable XP depending on selected modifiers, and always disables mask and pass-relevant unlocks tied to standard statistics. Farm XP on unmodified difficulty sessions.

Dread Levels — profile progression

Dread Levels represent your overall account level, visible on the main menu player label and beside party members in lobby. Access Dread Levels under Extras in menus.

Primary unlocks:

  • Dread Icons — small badges shown next to your name
  • Masks — cosmetic face wear visible in HUD and to teammates

Dread Levels do not gate story content, wonder weapons, or miracle picks. They signal experience to matchmaking partners and offer flex cosmetics for long-term players. Leveling Dread is passive—every scored run contributes regardless of which Sker Pass is active.

Do not confuse Dread Levels with Nightmare difficulty or optional Dread Level modifiers on episode lobbies. Profile Dread Levels are permanent account XP; lobby Dread modifiers are per-run difficulty mutators documented in the Nightmare guide.

Sker Pass — per-episode tracks

Sker Pass is a free cosmetic battle pass-style track tied to each episode map. Wales Interactive launched Sker Pass with 50 items at Early Access and added roughly 25 items per major episode update. There is no paid premium pass—all tiers unlock through play.

Each pass level grants one reward type:

  • Voice lines — taunt and callout audio
  • Player icons — lobby and HUD portraits
  • Masks — episode-themed face cosmetics
  • Menu backgrounds — animated main-menu scenes from map locales

Available Sker Pass tracks

Switch your active pass anytime; progress saves per pass but does not share between them:

PassEpisode map
Cursed Lands of LavernockLavernock
The Ashes of Sker HotelAshes
Sewers of the DeadSewers
Deadly Lover’s FortressFortress
House of the DamnedHouse
Tides of TerrorTides

Default active pass is Lavernock. If you main Fortress for wonder weapon practice, activate the Fortress pass before farming round 20+ sessions so XP lands on the track whose masks you want.

Masks and cross-source unlocks

Masks appear in Dread Levels, Sker Pass tiers, achievements, Easter eggs, and optional paid cosmetic DLC bundles on Steam. Sker Pass masks are episode-themed—Lavernock rural horror, Ashes hotel decay, Sewers industrial dread.

Equip masks from the customization menu. They display on your character icon during co-op and do not affect Quiet One aggro or miracle potency.

Voice lines and menu backgrounds

Voice lines add personality during calm rounds and boss phases—useful for co-op callouts without external Discord if you prefer character flavor. Menu backgrounds rotate animated scenes from each episode; completing a pass track often unlocks that map’s most dramatic vista (cathedral spires, hotel lobby, fortress doll gallery).

Menu music and weapon charms expanded in later updates—check pass preview panels for current tier rewards before committing farming sessions.

Efficient farming strategy

  1. Activate the pass for the map you plan to spam
  2. Run Hard or Nightmare after main quest for score density
  3. Stack Laughing Policeman headshot events when chasing bonus tokens
  4. Avoid Custom Mode when pass XP or mask credit matters
  5. Rotate passes if you want balanced cosmetics across episodes—stuck on one map burns out faster than alternating Ashes and Sewers farming routes

Pair pass farming with collectibles hunts—lore notes and hidden music Easter eggs often sit on routes you already traverse for high-round score.

Sker Pass vs achievements

Achievements unlock trophies, platform gamerscore, and some exclusive masks. Sker Pass tiers unlock steadily through XP without specific challenge text. Both require standard difficulty runs—Custom Mode disables achievements and pass-relevant statistics per Patch v1.3 notes.

See the dedicated achievements guide for Nightmare trophies, Hardcore seals, and speed-clear goals that do not appear on pass tracks.

Future pass content

Wales Interactive stated each episode update adds pass items. New maps post-1.0 (House, Tides) ship their own tracks. When future episodes release, expect fresh pass rows—switch active pass before your first clear so story XP counts toward themed rewards.

Track patch updates for economy changes that might affect score-to-XP ratios or Custom Mode restrictions.
